UPDATE 18 (Oct 7) — Quickloot, UI overhaul and quality of life
The developer opens by saying a roadmap is coming soon and that the first major content update is The Fishing update. Then:
New
- Quickloot: hover over containers and bodies to transfer loot quickly. It can be turned off in gameplay settings if you prefer the old interaction.
- UI overhaul and restyling across the interface.
- A perk to jump and sprint while sneaking — which changes how far you can push stealth movement once you own it.
- Saves can be renamed and are grouped by character name.
- Waiting now expires timed effects on in-game time instead of real time. A wait that used to burn a real-time buff now behaves like the rest of the world clock.
- Additional dungeons and tombs to explore.
Updated
- Shields now have implicit armor, and the shield bash perk deals damage equal to that armor instead of your global armor — the single most build-relevant line in this patch.
- Inventory backend reworked: no more lag when a shopkeeper carries a huge stock.
- Swimming rebalanced: you can no longer sprint while swimming by default (it is obtainable with a perk).
- Crime and bounties are now split between Akatun and Magdal.
- Re-pickpocketing the same item no longer grants pickpocketing XP, closing an easy skill loop.
- Mercy and Bloodletter spears buffed; Thricesworn Tramplers are boots rather than legs; custom spell projectiles are coloured appropriately; rock, grass and environment textures updated; asset optimizations reduce memory cost; load times improved in many cases; further shadow optimization; autosave improvements.
Fixed (selection of the long list): lost companions return home instead of getting lost; blocking only works from the front; paralysis no longer freezes you in mid-air; you can no longer roll while sneaking; combat music no longer persists between saves; Open Lock is correctly tagged as Psionics and healing bolt spells channel correctly; Gyore offers training after his quest and the egg quest is not re-offered; Krizur no longer sells a quest-reward spell and the Lunatic Crusader no longer carries a quest-reward spear; Tytus transports clients in multiplayer and does not wander off his dock; hosts cannot damage players with grave feast when friendly fire is off; many terrain holes and POI markers corrected; many voice lines re-cut for accuracy.
— hotbar, combat rebalance, resting encounters
The control and combat patch. It changed how weapons and spells are selected, made enemies more accurate, and turned resting into a system with a risk of its own.
UPDATE 17 (Sep 17) — hotbar, combat rebalance, resting encounters
The control and combat patch. It changed how weapons and spells are selected, made enemies more accurate, and turned resting into a system with a risk of its own.
New
- Weapon/Spell control overhaul: toggle between your equipped weapon and a spell with a hotkey (keyboard R, gamepad B). Number-key hotkeys 1-8 were added on PC. The quick-options radial wheel now selects favorited weapons instead of equipped weapons. Tapping the button toggles sheathing. The legacy equip system is still available at the bottom of gameplay settings.
- Combat rebalance: enemies are much more accurate with their attacks, and enemies were tuned slightly to compensate.
- Resting encounter system: resting now restores health when enemies are not around, but in hostile areas there is a chance your sleep is interrupted. The threat of interruption depends on the area you rest in.
- Autorun button (default Q; no default gamepad bind, but you can set one).
- Nine new summon spells placed around the world.
- Six new alchemy effects: Night Eye, Silence, Slow, Jump, Dispel, Drain Fatigue. Dispel removes all non-alchemy over-time effects. Existing alchemy effects were redistributed.
- New potion system: four quality levels, distributed through chests and vendors.
- Evidence Chest crime system: two locked chests, one in Henrik’s house and one in Tintentan’s house, where stolen items are sent. Guards who find you far outside town “somehow” have your item in their own inventory.
- Two high-level areas added near Magdal’s Rest; two additional dungeons in the yellow fungal area; underwater kelp forests and coral (ingredients to come in a later patch).
- Notifications when you try to sprint while overencumbered or cast while silenced; a weather volume slider; disconnects on the host or client side are now alerted to players.
Updated
- Some summon spells were rebalanced around the new spells for a smoother early-to-late-game transition.
- Alchemy no longer tells you whether selected ingredients share effects if those effects are unknown.
- Some restorative effects on ingredients were shifted so they are not the first ingredient revealed when eaten; their relative distribution did not change.
- Merchants clear excess inventory every 3 in-game days.
- Restorative potions are now over time instead of instant.
- Spells and effects now indicate whether they affect you or a target; you are no longer naturally buoyant in water.
- Particle effects on many weapons were greatly reduced; the ability to roll was removed for now.
- Armor damage reduction is capped at 85%, and the armor skill’s contribution to armor rating was rebalanced so early-game armor is no longer nearly as effective as late-game armor.
- Attribute gains per skill level rebalanced; HP is no longer granted simply for levelling up.
- NPC dialogue audio recut; fonts and UI elements updated for readability.
Fixed: online multiplayer stability improvements, among other fixes.
UPDATE 16 (Sep 10) — co-op characters and companion permadeath
The headline change is that co-op is no longer a separate character.
Bringing a single-player character into co-op
- You can now bring your single-player character into a friend’s game. Choose an existing save before joining, and your appearance, equipment, regular items, gold, skills and perks come with you.
- Progress you make in co-op saves back to that chosen slot.
- Quests and quest items stay with the host — they do not transfer to your own save.
- Guest character progress now saves every 30 seconds, independently of the host’s world saves.
- Recovery was added for character progress stored in older co-op saves.
- If you have no single-player save yet, you must start a game and save before joining.
Companions
- Companion permadeath is now optional and disabled by default. Defeated companions fall unconscious and get back up after combat. Turn on Companion Permadeath in settings if you want deaths to be permanent.
- Companions sent home or dismissed remain marked on your map and compass.
- Improved companion persistence — Zan now remembers where you sent him instead of returning to his original home.
- Fixed companions repeatedly falling down and reviving when saving and loading.
- Companions can no longer be pickpocketed.
Facial animation expanded
The lip and eye movement update now covers most NPCs across the island: most characters move their mouths with dialogue and blink, and skeletons have jaw movement. Dialogue animations were refreshed to match the latest voice audio.
Other additions
- Minor new places to explore, plus more detail and clutter around the island, including the forest beyond the green tunnel and areas near the mushroom region.
- Tombs now contain lootable urns, and some existing chests were replaced with lower-tier versions.
- Added and updated dialogue audio for Brastic, Hahn, Gourbin, Aul, Abil, Bok, Detta, Gyore, Falloe, Hirom, Chi-Alani, Krespir and Remba.
- Container inventories and the magic menu can now be sorted; the magic menu also shows spell school and cost.
- Alchemy ingredients are now listed alphabetically and can be filtered by effects you have discovered.
- New party status bars show your companions’ and co-op players’ state.
Two of these change long-standing advice: companion death is no longer permanent by default, and a guest’s gear, gold and skills now travel with them instead of resetting per session.
UPDATE 15 (Sep 5) — perk overhaul and Meris face
Current official build as of September 7.
Official notes call this a big update. Enemy behavior and fishing updates are listed as coming soon — they are not in this patch.
- Lip and eye movement: Meris now mouths dialogue and blinks. Other NPCs are being prepped for the same treatment.
- Perk overhaul: more than 60 new perks and 30+ reworks. Every skill now has a full ladder from early to late. Swimming, Running, Blocking, Armor, Lockpicking and Pickpocket finally have real trees.
- Existing saves keep owned perks.
Grantperk/removeperkconsole commands are mentioned for discretionary use. - New perk names published: Gladiator, Spellblade, Ronin, Iaido; Cleave, Momentum, Executioner, Titan’s Grip; Deadeye, Prismatic Quiver, Pincushion; Iron Rebuke, Riposte, Battering Ram, Deflection of the Saint; Warded Plate, Plated Punches, Last Stand, Second Skin, Tamazk Legacy; Arcane Focus, Conductor, Glass Cannon, Meteoric, Sorcerer’s Wrath, Unmaking; Steelskin, Spongestone, Soul Tether, Mindflayer; Divine Ire, Frail Rituals, Ravenous Horde, Lifelink; Mana Battery, Nimbus, Manablooded, Circular Breathing, Marathon Runner; Deep Breath, Living Frigate, Feeding Frenzy, Juggernaut; Untouchable, Impossible Feat; Locksmith’s Eye, Loothound, Lootlord, Inside Job; Soft Step, Vanishing Act, Ambush, Phantom, Assassin’s Patience; Fence, Deep Pockets, Bottomless Bag, Disarmed; Forager, Cloverblooded; plus general Blood Magic (pay half of every spell’s cost in health).
- Reworks (official): Sentinel → Crippling Shot (leg shots slow). Headhunter headshots double damage and stagger. Skirmisher no longer slows you while drawing. Sundering Blow smashes raised guards. Frogman is near-invisible while submerged. Burglar finds gold on locks. Gatherer doubles plant yield chance. Philosopher’s Stone is a 50% chance at a second potion. Bulwark only works with shields. Stoneskin scales with Armor skill. Gravity’s Ally removes fall damage entirely. Blood Magic renamed Eldritch Offering.
- Retired from the perk menu: Dismorphic, Haymaker, Anti-Conservationist, Lightning Rod, Deft Landing, Iron Calves, Athlete, Olympian, Bottomfeeder, Undress.
- Level and skill requirements were retuned (no numbers given).
The full patch record for UPDATE 7 to UPDATE 14 (August 2026) — bearmen, the Jinn tower, the XP-curve rework and the launch-week hotfixes — now lives in the patch archive. This page covers UPDATE 13 onward.
What this means for the guides
- Beginner/combat guides: the XP curve change (Exponential → Linear in UPDATE 11) means older “levels take forever” advice is outdated — grinding is now hundreds of times faster, so play whatever you want is the correct advice. UPDATE 15 rebuilt perk trees — old perk names on that list may be retired.
- Co-op guide: revive health is 40%→20% — plan revives as “get back up barely alive,” not “heal on down.” UPDATE 16 supersedes a lot of older co-op advice: you can now bring a single-player character into a friend’s game with gear, gold, skills and perks intact, progress saves back to that slot every 30 seconds, and companion permadeath is off by default.
- Companion advice: pages written before UPDATE 16 may still treat companion death as permanent. It is now optional and disabled by default.
- Spellcrafting: Waterwalking/Feather/Burden exist and are crafted/sold; potion value now scales with alchemy.
- **Trade/collection pages: items stack to 99999, so hoarding advice changes. UPDATE 18 adds Quickloot for containers and bodies, splits crime between Akatun and Magdal, and stops re-pickpocketing the same item from giving XP.
- Sneak builds: UPDATE 18 adds a perk that lets you jump and sprint while sneaking, so older “never sprint in stealth” advice is now conditional rather than absolute.
- Shield builds: shields now carry implicit armor and the shield bash perk scales off that armor instead of global armor, so pre-October bash numbers do not transfer.
- Waiting and buffs: timed effects now expire on in-game time while waiting, so time-buff routines need rechecking.
